La Opera Bar is the most famous bar in Mexico and certainly the most historic. A beautiful cantina in the downtown district it looks straight out of some western movie, with its ornate ceilings, frosted windows, tiled floors and long dark wood bar counter. The menu is unimpressive, but the atmosphere and drinks are excellent. You should try the incredible Aperital Batido or a classic tequila. Specialties include Spanish tapas, Caesar salad, and Veracruz-style red snapper with olives and tomatoes. Is very well known for being the favourite place to drink of Mexican revolutionary hero Pancho Villa.
